Obituary for Markle Pete

Markle Pete went home to be with the Lord on January 28, 2018.

He was born across the Copper River to Mentasta and Taha Pete (deceased when he was 4) and was raised by his step mother Elizabeth Pete.

Markle is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virginia Pete, daughters, Lorraine Gordon, Elizabeth LaFromboise, and Tana Mae Pete, son, Timothy Pete and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Carl (Linda) Pete and Stevie Pete and sisters Alice Hand and Eileen Starr with many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

He loved each of his family members with a special love for each one, he had a funny saying or name for each one. He will be missed by many and is loved dearly by his family.

His love for the Lord Jesus Christ was apparent in the last six years of his life. He spoke often about how much he changed because of the LORD. He attended Denali Lutheran Church in Silver Springs with his Slatsiine, Todd Roeske as the Pastor. He is home with the Lord and is where he has wanted to be for a very long time.

He loved going to fishcamp, working on the fishwheel, checking the wheel, cutting wood, teaching the Athabascan culture and language to anyone who listen or was interested in learning. He taught youth and even adults how to cut fish and king salmon in the traditional style. He taught Ahtna language, culture and history at Chickaloon school and at Prince William Sound Community College where he was known as Professor Pete.
