Obituary for Sharon Jean Nusunginya

Longtime Alaskan resident, Sharon Jean Nusunginya, 70, passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2018 at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna from complications from a stroke.

Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24. At Soldotna Church of God. Pastor Alan Humphries will officiate.

Sharon was born Feb. 5, 1947 in Benton Harbor, Mich.

Above all, Sharon was a very dedicated mother and homemaker. She provided homeschool education to three of her children and helped guide them to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.

Sharon was a woman of MANY many talents and hobbies. She found joy and success in various roles throughout her life in criminal justice, award-winning cake decorating, leadership within Boy Scouts of America, American Red Cross volunteerism for returning veterans during Vietnam, LOVE inc. Board of Directors, President of Central Peninsula Crime Stoppers, helping to form and start the Peninsula Food Bank, health and nutrition coaching, bird breeding, beading and semi-precious gem jewelry making. She was an activist and a inspiring Christian woman who loved scripture. Sharon always wanted to help people achieve happiness and wellness.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Marcia Rohn of Florida, and her brother Tom Rohn of Nikiski.

She is survived by husband Vern Nusunginya; her six children, Autumn Dawn Heys, Tami Vaught, Denise Tuttle, Vincent Nusunginya, Justin Nusunginya and Bryan Nusunginya; 17 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one more on the way.

Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
